Intertwining with the famous Mountain Rwenzori, Queen Elizabeth has its location in southwestern parts of Uganda. It occupies an area of 764 square miles (1,978 square km) in a region of rolling plains east of Lake Edward.
The park got its name in 1952 after Queen Elizabeth II declaired its name. It is one of Uganda’s most diverse and rich wildlife reserves, spanning diverse ecosystems. The park is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, including the Rwenzori Mountains, sprawling savannahs, and the stunning Lake Edward.
Queen’s strategic location attracts the incredible kings of the jungle, lions, elephants, hippos and crocodiles in the Kazinga Channel. Beyond its natural richness, the park also reflects the cultural diversity of Uganda. It is home to various ethnic groups, each contributing to the vibrant mosaic of the country’s heritage. The communities surrounding the park, such as the Bakonzo and Banyabindi, have a unique connection to the land, adding an enriching cultural dimension to the area.
